Kotputli Cement Works
When cyclone Phailin struck Odisha in October this year, some members of UltraTech's team in Bhubaneswar decided it was time to do their bit.
Led by Mr. Satya S.Mohanty, TSM and Mr. Dilip Kumar Ghosal, Regional Head (Acct), Bhubaneshwar, a team of eight members took help of from local contacts and found out villages that were most severely affected by the cyclone. They zeroed in on the interiors of Brahmagiri area in Puri district and headed towards them.
"We started our journey towards the remotest villages in the Brahmagiri area. The area was completely submerged in water when we reached there. We had taken a vehicle from Bhubaneshwar to this place. We had to leave it about two kilometers before our spot and wade through water for the rest of the stretch," said Mr. Mohanty.
The team was one of the first external agencies that reached the area with help. The team roped in local stockists and made relief packets containing chuda, sugar, large-size bread, biscuits, candles, match boxes and water pouches.
"The whole area had a shortage of food. In fact, we had difficulty collecting food for the victims. But, somehow we managed. All the team members were highly-motivated to help the victims somehow. We not only wanted the villagers to have food but also wanted to let them know that they were not alone," said Mr. Mohanty.
The gesture helped the villagers immensely and left them happy. It also boosted the brand image of UltraTech as the efforts were appreciated by all.
The initiative was successful thanks to the cooperation of the team members including Mr. Vibhu Goyle, ZHM (EZ-B), Mr. Shashi Kumar Deo, RHM, Mr. S. S. Mohanty, Mr. Dilip Ghosal, Mr. Alok Mitra, Mr. Jajati Jena, Mr. Amaya Mohanty, Mr. Rajendra Nayak and others.
