Ratnagiri Cement Works recently achieved the unique distinction of not having a single reportable accident in the past 12 years of operations. The total time period of 24,58,305 accident-free man hours is a record in UltraTech Cement's history.
Ratnagiri Cement Works recently won two awards under the Cement Manufacturing category in Maharashtra Safety Award Competition – 2016. National Safety Council (Maharashtra Chapter) conferred the unit with Lowest Accident Frequency Rate and Longest Accident Free Period awards. In last 12 years, Ratnagiri Cement Works team has carried out some major projects in the unit. These include construction of two clinker silos along with feeding and conveying systems, installation of complete new MCC and cable cellars, installation and commissioning of fly ash unloading, storage, extraction and conveying system, cement silo repairing work and roof shed AC sheet replacement work. All these major projects were completed without any lost workday cases (LWCs), medical treatment cases (MTC) or restricted work cases (RWC).
During high risk jobs, senior officials and line managers are present at the site to ensure safety in operations. Workmen are allowed to work in the unit only after completing necessary training and safety instructions. Fire hazard survey and plant hazard analysis is done on a regular basis to ensure there is no risk involved.
