As part of its strategy to reduce the impact of its operations on climate change, UltraTech is fully committed to realising its Net Zero goal by 2050. The Company is scaling up its investments in the development of innovative products and services, improving energy efficiency, increasing the share of renewable energy and scaling up the use of alternative fuels and alternate raw material (AFR) in our manufacturing operations.
UltraTech has taken bold commitments for decarbonising its operations across the value chain. The Company’s GHG emission reduction targets are SBTi-validated. UltraTech has adopted a holistic approach towards reducing the use of fossil-fuels and increasing the use of green and renewable energy. The Company has also stated its intent to not invest any further in thermal power capacity during its expansion, to reduce carbon emissions.
As part of its RE100 commitment, UltraTech aims to meet 100% of electricity requirement through renewables sources by 2050. UltraTech plans to increase the overall share of green energy in its total energy mix to 85% by 2030. Currently, the Company has 719 MW of green energy capacity, which includes 264 MW of WHRS installed capacity and 455 MW of contracted renewable energy. Cumulatively, this translates to about 24% of UltraTech’s current energy requirements.
Looking beyond mitigating impact, UltraTech strives to contribute positively to planet Earth. UltraTech is water positive and makes active efforts to replenish water sources both within its units, and in the communities around its units. The Company embraces the principles of a circular economy, aiming to minimize resource utilization. UltraTech's manufacturing units are equipped with systems that utilize waste materials safely and efficiently, maximizing resource efficiency and minimizing environmental impact. In FY23 alone, UltraTech has used over 20% recycled material for cement production. Biodiversity management is another key focus area for UltraTech. The company acknowledges the importance of a healthy ecosystem for its long-term sustainability, and is committed to achieving ‘No Net Loss’ to Biodiversity.
