Transforming tomorrow by empowering the girl child today: UltraTech celebrates the National Girl Child Day

ss

On January 24th, National Girl Child Day, UltraTech reaffirms its commitment to empowering young girls through education, healthcare, and improved infrastructure, the Company believes that every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive, and its CSR efforts are designed to help nurture the dreams of young girls from marginalised communities. Addressing issues related to school enrollment, digital classes, coaching classes, and adolescent health, UltraTech has positively impacted the lives of over 8,700 girls across India.

Education

Viewing education as a cornerstone of success, UltraTech engages with the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGVBs) and other institutions. It has helped inspire 1,723 girls continue with their formal education, extending to villages such as Malkhed, Tadipatri, Balaji, Jafrabad, Reddipalayam, and Maihar, and Dhar.

Health and well-being

UltraTech’s CSR initiatives are focused on ensuring young girls and children have the healthcare facilities they need to thrive. An example of one such CSR initiative is Project Ojaswani by Maihar Cement Works, UltraTech’s integrated cement manufacturing unit in Satna, Madhya Pradesh. In partnership with the Maihar Cement Seva Trust Hospital, this initiative facilitated blood tests, medical treatment, and regular monitoring, enhancing the health of over 120 girls aged 11-15 years, and helping improve their well-being and academic performance.

Project SAHAJ, supported by the Praveenlata Sansthan of Jaipur, is another CSR program with the goal of educating young girls about menstrual hygiene in tribal regions of Madhya Pradesh. UltraTech’s efforts involved organising awareness sessions, providing eco-friendly solutions like reusable pads, and training on pad production. This initiative helped benefit 550 girls across nine villages in Madhya Pradesh. The Company also distributed 470 pads and trained 20 Self Help Group (SHG) members. Similar projects have been carried out across other locations, empowering over 2000 girls.

School Infrastructure

Young girls in villages can often quit schools due to a lack of proper sanitation facilities. To remedy that, UltraTech constructed school toilets in Dalla, Jafrabad, and Maihar. The Company’s commitment to education also entails improving school infrastructure and ensuring quality in the schools supported. UltraTech developed the infrastructure of 11 school buildings in Pali, Kharia, Shambhupura, Tadipatri, Balaji, Maihar, Dhar, Neemuch, Bela, Sidhi, and Dalla. These enhancements included sanitation and drinking water facilities in numerous schools.

By addressing the challenges faced by these girls from marginalized communities, the Company is paving the way for a brighter future. With a focus on creating equitable opportunities, UltraTech continues to build a foundation to inspire change and work towards a more inclusive and empowered society.
