UltraTech ranked No.1 in sustainability in Cement & Building Materials sector in India

 

Ranked among Top 20 Most Sustainable Companies in India by BW IMSC 2024


UltraTech Cement Limited has been ranked No. 1 in the Cement & Building Materials sector at the 4th Edition of Business World’s India’s Most Sustainable Companies 2024 (IMSC 2024), and No. 17 out of the top 200 Companies in India. This is the fourth consecutive time UltraTech has topped the sectoral ranking, an acknowledgement of UltraTech’s efforts in driving sustainability across the value chain of its operations. Bilancia Consulting was the knowledge partner for IMSC 2024. The framework for the award examines a wide range of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria to provide a holistic view of each company’s sustainability efforts.


UltraTech has taken a holistic approach to embed sustainability across its value chain. It has integrated low-carbon strategy into its business conduct. It is scaling up investments in the development of environment friendly products, improving energy efficiency, increasing the share of renewable energy, increasing green cover to nurture biodiversity, and scaling up the use of industrial and municipal waste in its manufacturing operations to drive circularity.

UltraTech’s key climate change commitments:

 

• UltraTech is a signatory to the GCCA Climate Ambition 2050 and has committed to Net Zero Concrete Roadmap announced by GCCA.

• UltraTech’s GHG emission reduction targets are validated by Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Key targets include:

    o   Reduce Scope 1 CO2 intensity by 27% by 2032 from 2017 levels, and

    o   Reduce Scope 2 CO2 intensity by 69% by 2032 from 2017 levels

• UltraTech is committed to move towards 100% renewable sources by 2050 under the RE100 commitment run by The Climate Group

 

Sustainability highlights for FY24:

 

 Net CO2 emission intensity decreased to 556 kg CO2/t compared to 632 kg CO2/t in 2017.

• Over 33 million tonnes of recycled and alternative raw materials utilized in cement production

• Conserved 106 million cubic meters of water and became five times water positive

 Achieved 22% electricity substitution by green power mix.

• Achieved EP100 commitment of doubling energy productivity from base year of 2010, way ahead of the target year of 2035
