UltraTech deployed sanitation workers and waste plastic collection bins across high-footfall locations in Prayagraj and Maha Kumbh’s designated sectors. The initiative also emphasised community engagement and awareness through an LED activation van travelling across Prayagraj, educating citizens on plastic segregation and encouraging household participation in the campaign.
UltraTech also processed waste collected independently by the Prayagraj Nagar Nigam from the Maha Kumbh. Cumulatively, over 400 metric tons of plastic waste was collected at the Maha Kumbh and processed as alternative fuel.
This approach reduced reliance on the use of conventional fossil fuels for cement manufacturing while also reducing societal burden for landfill due to plastic waste. It also helped minimise the environmental risk of plastic waste leaching into soil, and water bodies.
In FY24 alone, UltraTech co-processed 5.43 lakhs tonnes of municipal solid waste as alternative fuel in its kiln operations and captive power plants.
