Situated on higher ground, Balaji Cement Works, UltraTech’s integrated cement manufacturing unit in the region, quickly mobilised a rapid response team, facilitating evacuations and sheltering 300 residents of the area in the unit’s Aditya Birla Public School. For over six days, UltraTech’s team supplied over 15000 meals to the people of Budawada. The RO plants at the unit operated round the clock and tankers from the village were used to supply over 100KL of drinking water to the affected residents. After the waters subsided, UltraTech organised medical camps in collaboration with the Department of Health, Medical & Family Welfare, and supported the local Panchayat in their chlorination efforts to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.
UltraTech also assisted the state electricity department in deploying a 70-member team that reinstated power within three days and provided equipment to restore agricultural power supply in the area. Road connectivity was swiftly re-established as the team reconstructed a 350-metre blacktop road to Jaggayyapet within seven days.
UltraTech undertakes its social initiatives under the aegis of The Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development with Mrs Rajashree Birla as its Chairperson and anchored by Dr Pragnya Ram as the Group Head for CSR. UltraTech’s CSR focus areas are education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, community infrastructure, and social causes. UltraTech reaches out to more than 1.8 million beneficiaries in over 500 villages in 16 states across India.
