Asphalt
Asphalt Meaning
Asphalt is a dark, sticky substance found naturally as a byproduct of petroleum distillation. Due to its flexibility and adhesiveness, it is primarily used in road construction and maintenance as a binding agent mixed with aggregate particles. Asphalt is also used in waterproofing and sealing projects.

Different Types of Asphalt
When understanding what is asphalt, you must know that it is not a one-size-fits-all material, and its various types are suited to different applications:
1. Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA)
2. Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA)
3. Cold Mix Asphalt
4. Porous Asphalt
Each type has specific applications, contributing to asphalt's versatility in construction.
How to use Asphalt correctly?
I. Prepare the Base Properly: Make sure the area where you will lay asphalt is clean, dry, and firm. Remove any dirt or debris.
II. Get the Right Tools: Use a roller for flattening and a strong rake for spreading asphalt.
III. Heat it Right: Asphalt must be heated to the correct temperature before spreading. Cold asphalt won’t spread evenly.
IV. Spread Evenly: Use the rake to spread asphalt evenly across the surface. Check for any uneven areas or bumps.
V. Compact Properly: After spreading, use the roller to compact asphalt firmly. This helps in making the surface smooth and durable.
VI. Allow to Set: Let the asphalt set and hard Sidewalk before allowing traffic. This usually takes at least 24 hours.
VII. Regular Maintenance: Keep checking for cracks or damage and fix them promptly to increase the lifespan of the asphalt surface.
VIII. Safety Measures: Always wear gloves and protective gear while working with hot asphalt to avoid burns.
