M10 concrete is used for projects requiring lower strength. Its compressive strength is 10 MPa (Megapascals) after 28 days of curing, which is relatively low compared to other concrete grades. M10 ratio concrete is often used for non-structural elements like pathways, flooring, and concrete blocks, where load-bearing isn't the primary concern.
The components of M10 concrete include:
1. Cement: Acts as the binder that holds the mix together.
2. Sand: Provides the bulk and improves the concrete's workability.
3. Coarse Aggregates: Gravel or crushed stone adds strength and stability to the mix.
4. Water: Essential for hydration and to enable the chemical reaction that hardens the concrete.
The standard M10 concrete ratio is 1:3:6, which means one part cement, three parts sand, and six parts aggregate. This ratio ensures a balanced and workable mix for its applications.
To proportion M10 ratio concrete, follow these steps:
1. Measure the Materials: For every bag of cement, use three parts of sand and six parts of aggregate.
2. Mix the Dry Components: Combine the cement, sand, and aggregate thoroughly until a uniform colour is achieved.
3. Add water to the dry mix, typically around 50% of the cement's weight, and mix until the concrete is consistent.
4. Test the Consistency: The mix should be easy to work with but not too wet. It should hold its shape when compacted.

M10 grade concrete is commonly used in:
Subflooring: Provides a stable base for flooring materials.
Pavements: Ideal for pathways and patios where heavy loads aren't expected.
Filling and Levelling: It is used as a fill material or to level out surfaces before applying a stronger concrete layer.
Non-Load-Bearing Walls: Suitable for constructing walls that don't support significant structural loads.

Understanding the M10 concrete ratio and its proper application is essential for achieving the desired results in construction. With a standard mix of 1:3:6, M10 ratio concrete is ideal for light-duty projects. Following the correct mixing and proportioning process ensures that your concrete is durable and practical for its intended use.
For M10 concrete, you will need approximately eight bags of cement per cubic meter of concrete.
The amount of water needed typically ranges from 160 to 180 litres per cubic meter of concrete, depending on the desired workability.
